Can't run emacs, pico..

Hello,
I cannot run emacs or pico from my Sun OS command shell. My account does not have a .cshrc file also. When I tried to make a text file and copied it to my account by the name .cshrc, the source commands I place in it do not work.
Can anybody tell me how can I solve this? Any help would be appreciated.

ok so when u type
pico filename, what error msg do u get.

there should be .login file or some other hidden file depending on which shell u'r using. are u using bash? do u know which shell u'r using?

good news: pico's is there.
bad news: directory permission problem

check /usr/local/bin/pico directory and see if pico there

u should have .login file if using tcsh. are u superuser on this account? if not try

ls -l
chmod to 755 if need be
