I can't connect to the internet???

I have installed Mandrake 8.0...however I can't seem to connect to the internet while using it.
I have dial up upstream and cable downstream (if that helps). Can anyone help me out???

Thanks.

Can you hear the modem when it starts the dialing sequence? I assume you cannot because it is reporting busy before any audible dial sequence.

Can you manually enter AT commands into the modem?

In that case, recommend you read this:

http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/Modem-HOWTO

There are good sections for modem settings, how to use Kermit to send AT commands, where to download Kermit, etc. It is a very big HOWTO, so there should be everything you could every want to know about Linux and modems.

if you point me in the right direction i can probably figure it out. i think!!
