problem using ./configure

i am attempting to compile my first tar...
i have unpacked the tar... and am attempting to use the
./configure
but this bash returns
bash: ./configure: No such file or directory

what am i doing wrong?

Are u executing the command from a directory where configure resides ??


Try an alternative .. by exporting the PATH as follows ...


export PATH=$PATH:./


and try to run the configure after going to that perticular director
where configure exists.

example; you download a program called mysql.tar
then untar the file tar xf mysql.tar
then this will create the directory mysql
now change to the mysql directory
cd mysql
now you should be able to run ./configure
after it runs through the configure, then run make
