Exclamation How do I install Unix?

Hi,

Im completely new to Unix installations, but have done some unix work so some commands are not new to me.

But I would like to start my own Unix FTP server, but I have no clue where to start.

I have a computer that i soon format the HD on (Was Windows,Intel computer), so I want to use this as the server, but need all the software, and knowledge to install the SW.

Are there any sources on the internet to help installing UNIX, and are there different types of UNIX (And what will be the best for FTP service), and what FTP program for UNIS will be the best...

Best Regards

since you have intel box and new to unix, I would suggest installing linux. they are dfferent linux vendor redhat and suse are the major vendor ones

you can download suse linux free from http://www.suse.com/us/private/download/

or fedora by redhat free from http://www.redhat.com

the installation of linux are self explanatry but I advice to install full graphical mode which includes kde for graphical use

suse linux comes with proftp which is a good ftp server software.

Dear tharpacx,
The UNIX operating system simply isa powerfull OS so as linux since they all are bulit on the same basis. the major and most useful advantage of those operating systems are the stability that they offer and the very low probability of bieng crashed rather than they are working under open source aggrements in which the source code of the OS itself are available for the public so every one can contribute in the evolution of them so that explan the rapid evolution of the LINUX & UNIX OS's.

Thanks, if u need more help fell free about that.
