remove shadow password

Does anyone know how to remove a stanza in the shadow password file if the user account has already been removed on an AIX box? I know it can be done by editing the file itself but I would prefer not to do it that way.

cheers

You can use vipw -s on some systems - which still has the net effect of editing the file manually, but will do some basic syntax checking and lock the shadow file properly.

unfortunately vipw can not be used on the system.

do you know if running the command "chsec -f /etc/security/passwd -s stanza -a atrribute = " and setting the atrribute value to nothing for all attributes that are specified in the file will remove the whole stanza?

cheers
