partition
i have a second HD installed on my computer, which came partioned in 3 fragments..how do i get rid of the partitions...
i dont know how to use F disk thanks  |

Buy a program called Partition Magic. Runs on windows only, but is a great easy to use tool.
Other solution: learn to use fdisk. Its not that hard. UNder linux: Code:
fdisk /dev/hdb # (or whatever your disk is) m # display a menu p # display the partition table d # delete a partition n # create a new partition q # quit without saving if you screw up |

Save yourself the time and money and learn fdisk.
If this is a windows machine with DOS capabilities, just put fdisk on a bootable floppy and run it from the command prompt. From that point, it should be extremely easy to figure out how to delete partitions. fdisk under linux is not hard either. |

hmmm
cheers lads for that, i ran F disk and got the gist of it but i jus wana clarify somat before i go steaming on...better safe than sorry...
its the second HD in my comp and its split in to three chunks = 2 partitions...there is a primary dos partition and extended dos partition, if i delete em wil i lose the data on that HD!!! thanx |

Yes, changing the partition table results in the loss of the data within, with very few exceptions. Also, some distributions of Linux come with Disk Druid and cfdisk. Check to see if you have them - they're (IMHO) a lot easier to work with... |

Allow me to correct your statment if you will. If that drive is divided into 3 "chunks", then technically you have 3 partitions. A partition is not a divider in a drive. A partition is considered to be an actual portion of the hard disk. Just trying to help!
And yes, deleting said partitions will result in a loss of data. |
