Using vi in solaris

Btw, i have done a search on vi and it did not helpp me...

Here is my query....
I am trying to edit a file using vi...I can't seem to insert numbers

also using the 'del' key makes it UPPER case..., what are the main keyboard strokes to use when using vi?

Cheers
