Excuse me for this question really for dummies!
I would like to know how sendmail works, obviously even in few words. If it uses a mail server or relay to send mail, if there is some check that sendmail makes to the from address and so on... Thank you very much. |

Please search the forums first.
Using Sendmail for multiple domain names sendmail - config help? See the "How do I send email?" faq as well... Your best bet for all-around knowledge is probably to go to www.amazon.com and puchase a sendmail book. There's also an faq for that. |

i would strongy agree with RTMs opinion.
Sendmail is a huge beast and to tackle what it is and how it works i think is beyond this forum. the syntax for the config file is complcated and pretty awkward if you dont have the book on hand as a referance (unless you deal with sendmail on a daily basis) but yes sendmail is a mail server, and yes sendmail can forward its mail to a relay server or it can act as a relay server. |
