system sleep
Dear All ,
I installed new Linux Red Hat 9 system and it is working fine . but while i keep it for certain time ideal ( i mean ndo not wrok on system itself ) it goes to mode like sleep mode ,,, but while it is in sleep mode i can not ping it or telnet !! i discovered it while i was telnet it , i got disconnected , i went to system itself and pressed any key and screen come up again .. i telnet again ! how can avoid this problem plz thanks

Hi,
on redhat you can check with chckconfig acpid --list and chkconfig apmd --list the acutal settings. may be it's a good idea to switch it off with chkconfig and stop the deamons with service XXX stop regards malcom |

i did not work !!
i stoped it and wait , still same problem ,,, i want to ask why when system goes to this mode , tcpip stop !! thanks

Hi again,
you already stoped the deamons ?? Check with ps or service XXX status. If they are really stoped, may be your system BIOS has some strange configuration for going down to sleep after a while. regards malcom |

Dear Guys ,
still my problem is not solved . now i can be sure that machine goes to something like sleep mode or stop mode from application or demon called apmd . and it is related to pcmcia for ;aptops although i have desktop !! and i found files related to it under /etc/sysconfig/apmd . but i want to remove all this packge or application ,, but how ?? thanks
