FreeBSD 5.1 update?

1. I`ve installed FreeBSD 5.1 on my pc. And now want to update this system to FreeBSD 5.2 How can I do this?
2. Many times I heard about updating kernel. How can I update it, and where shall I download it? My friend told me that kernel from www.kernel.org is only for Linux.
3. plz, explain me the meaning of the ports in FreeBSD. And what is it. Because I can`t understand
Help me plz. I confuced!!!!

Start by reading the infamous FreeBSD handbook:

Then you can read the relevant section:

I would recommend updating with the use of "CVSup"
