UNIX Newbie with a Sun Solaris
NIS question.
I have 2 Sun Solaris (circa 1999) workstations talking to server1 running
NIS. user1 is not in the local users on either workstation.
user1 can succesfully log into both workstations - as such
NIS is being seen and talked to on server1. For that matter, Workstation1 all works great.
Workstation2, however, allows user1 almost no access rights (run priveldges?), he can't run man pages, mount filesystems, etc. ... if he SU's, then things seem to work ok.
the nsswitch.conf and other network files appear to be the same on both workstations. I have run (the name is escaping me) that network-unconfigure utility which then puts you through the network reconfiguration routine after reboot.
One other quirck I notice on workstation2 is if I say ping yahoo, I get some error of a missing gateway or some such... I have defaultrouter set the same on both machines.
Ideas on both a) why the mysterious lack of trust to
NIS and b) where to look for some sort of whacky old gateway settings unique to workstation2?
Thanks,
ccy
