Newbie thinking of Unix

Hey all,

I am currently using XP , i want to change OS cos i hate MS and im woundering what kind of OS UNIX is? and will it run on a IMB 100% Compatible PC?

Each PC is 100% compatible. I'dd start Linux the Unix variant that is easy to learn and has a lot of free support. And as a Windows man, lot's of GUI interfaces

Just pick one. Mandrake is my favorite, but I know that there are many, many more favorites on this forum. Please search the forums for equal questions you can think of. There are many people that started thinking this way.

OK thanks, i mainly use my computer to play Multiplayer games, playing MP3's, and watching Videos on... i play a lot of games so im wondering we i no longer be able to play games or can Linux Emulate or somehow create a Windows enviroment to play the games in, like Mac's Virtual PC?

Also SUN are great.... MICROSOFT are $%"£%£!^

Gamer? Read these articles...

FiringSquad - Linux intro (see the "Wrapping it all up" section)

Also compare the number of games for Linux versus Windows on tucows

There are emulators to run Xbox and others but I think you will find you are going to be stuck with Mr. Gates if you want the latest and greatest games.

Okay thats guys,

Can i be a pain and ask will it be combatible with my...

VIA K133A mobo
Geforce FX 5200 128mb
AMD XP 1800+

im worried it wont have drivers for the above, can you help or direct me where it lists what Mandrake or a similer Linux OS supports?
