Red face CTRL+H versus ^? versus BACKSPACE

Hi Gurus!

I recently got my shell account (HP UX v11) created by our sysadmin and am having problem deleting with the backspace key.

After doing some reading, I believe I need to enter a custom "STTY..." statement in my profile.

Can someone please help me with the correct "STTY" sequence to put in my .profile? I would like to be able to use the BACKSPACE key instead of CTRL+H.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Al.

I think it's stty erase=^H , give that a try - I'm not a 100% sure.

Hi,

It should be :

stty erase <Back Space>

It should show you then :

stty erase ^H

If you have a problem using the backspace it should display you the above output. If not, it will just perform a backspace.

Thumbs up CTRL+H versus ^? versus BACKSPACE <END>

Thanks to all of you guys for helping. The solution is as such:

stty erase ^H

is the statement I entered in my .profile although I had to type SHIFT+6 to obtain the caret symbol followed by uppercase H.

Anyway, it works now. Thumbs up to all of you.
