cannot su to root

i found a few topics related to this issue, but none of them were particularly useful.

for some reason, I can't 'su' to root.

to improve security, i change the ownership of 'su' so that only people in sysadm could use the command, and so far this seems to be working, however when i try to 'su' to root from a sysadm account, it doesn't seem to accept the password.

does anyone know how i can resolve this issue?

Please post your OS and version, your long listing of su, and your output from the id command (to insure your default group is sysadmin).

You might need executable on the owner (presumed to be root) on the su file.
