Question imageMagick?

Hi

I am planning to install ImageMagick on my server here. I have learned what I needed about Unix when I needed it..... but I have never installed anything before.

I have downloaded the necessary file from imagemagick.org, and their installation instructions seem easy enough (only 2 or 3 commands).

My only real question is (I can hear you slapping your foreheads now) where should I upload this installation file on my server for install?

My guess would be the tmp directory...

I guess I am not sure if, when installing, where the program is installed (or should be installed for use)

Simple question eh?

Help is appreciated!

Thanks

You say you already read the document from the ImageMagick website? It does answer some of your questions; for instance, regarding where the program is installed, the document says the default when you run make install is `/usr/local/bin`, `/usr/local/main`, etc. I shouldn't think there'd be any problem with just accepting the default, unless someone thinks there's a better place to install it...

If you ever need to know again a where a program has installed itself a 'whereis programname' usually comes up trumps.

EDIT: HTML being on messed up my post. Fixed.
