MV'd a file, now it's disappeared...

I'm doing an assignment for a Unix course at school.

I attempted to rename one of the shell programming questions from home to Q1 by typing:

mv home Q1

It returned a message saying

mv: cannot access home

And now there's no home or Q1 in the directory. Please help!

What happened to this? How did you resolve this? I am facing the same issue.

Please Help.

How much time a big file takes to rename?

At what level was "home" originally? (the pathname)

Hard to say without knowing your syntax. Are you running CDE by chance? Check your trash? And how full is your disk?

No CDE.

It was a plain command

mv oldfile newfile:

Would still like to know how full your HDD is.
I'm running HP-UX 11.0 using the CDE (Common Desktop Environment) on an HP b2600 Workstation.
What are you running and on what?
