I had done this 2-3 years ago - I also just untared the package and did export my DISPLAY variable, as the installer was a JAVA GUI and then ran:

Code:
./IHS_6.1.0.0/IHS/install

From my documentation that was all, following the instructions in the windows. Did you do a find to locate that install script? Maybe there is a readme or something. I remember there was some instructions, how to install it, but I do not remember if that was just a googled website or some text/html file in the package.

Thnx for the reply..

i did find / -name IHS -type d 2>/dev/null to search for IHS but it rerurns below (all results are from WAS base directory not where i hav untared the installed Linux):-

Code:
/opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profileTemplates/default/documents/config/templates/servertypes/WEB_SERVER/servers/IHS
/opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profileTemplates/management/documents/config/templates/servertypes/WEB_SERVER/servers/IHS
/opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/AppSrv01/config/templates/servertypes/WEB_SERVER/servers/IHS
/opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/AppSrv01/config/temp/download/templates/servertypes/WEB_SERVER/servers/IHS
/opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/profiles/AppSrv01/wstemp/97656/workspace/templates/servertypes/WEB_SERVER/servers/IHS

NOTE:- i hav WAS 7.0 60 days trial installer for linux.

The script in 6.1.0.0 was named install, not IHS. So I would opt to search for install. And it is a file, a script, no directory:

Code:
find ./IHS -name install -type f 2>/dev/null

I would also not start from root (/) but in the directory where you unpacked it.

EDIT:
Just noticed, that this thread is placed in "Web Programming" while it has nothing to do with that. On which platform are you, AIX? If yes, I will move this thread to the AIX forum.
Another thing - if you just need a web server, why not take Apache for example, as IHS is just a modified Apache with some IBM modules, which is (iirc) at least not compatible with Apache, modul wise.

i am trying this on RHEL 5.3

I have created a IBM HTTP server from IBM Administrator Console but while starting it i am getting below error:-
"Could not make a connection to the IBM HTTP Administration server on node %localhostname%Node01/IBMHTTP"

Any idea about this error and how to resolve it?

Thanks in adv.

Why don't you just use an Apache Httpd? Thread moved.
