Where the operating system are going?

Dear administrators I want to post the following question and, honestly, I don't know in which forum to post it since its general meaning.

my question is: Where the operating system are going?
Microkernel, monolithich or hybrid ?

Because this question involves more forums at the same but not just one in particular where should I post it ?
Thank you in advance

Where the operating systems are going

Hi,
it's a general question and if I've understood correctly the indications gave me from the administrator, this the right place where I have to post it.

I' d like to know which is the actual trend for the architecture of the operating systems. The developers' efforts in which directions are going?
Microkernel, monolithic or hybrid ?
Please could you point out some related articles or academic papers too ?

Thank you in advance
