The DT messaging system could not be started

Hello All,

I am getting " The DT messaging system could not be started" message when wants to login as root on a box running on tru64 5.1A.

/etc/hosts is ok.

when i see in .dt/errorlog it shows message server could not be started.

Thanks for help.

Smile The DT messaging system could not be started on tru64 unix 5.1a

I do get the same error message running on a compaq alpha box, ES45. This also result on the system losing the network settings when rebooted.

This message is to do with CDE and it's underlying messaging system i.e ToolTalk. If you are unfamilar with ToolTalk, conceptually it is similar to DBUS on Fedora/Redhat/CentOS. It was developed by Sun.

Generally caused by CDE not being able to write files in a user's home directory. Often caused when a user's directory is NFS mounted. Lots of information and good advise available if you search the Web.
