Using Xorg t extend laptop screen to external monitor

Hey,

I was trying to configure my laptop's xorg.conf file so I could use a external monitor. But things got messed up and now I can't get the original back (meaning a high resolution desktop on the laptop). What went wrong? How is it possible that the server always gets stuck at the line:
Code:
FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" reference is 2, should be 1; fixing

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 on a Packard Bell EasyNote SJ5. The graphical card is a nVidia Corp GeForce 7000M.

In the default xorg.conf file that the server generates by doing a reconfigure there is no mension of resolution or even graphical cards and so on...

Can anybody tell me what's going wrong? Does anybody has a working file?

Thanks for help in advance,
Javi

I have same experience, too.

I'm not sure. That is meaning that there is no font file.

Firstly, you look for X system installed directory.

Secondaly you'll see next file.

Quote:
/Xsystemdir/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.alias
You'll look at this line which starts with "fixed" in the file.

Quote:
fixed -misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso8859-1
Maybe default font is "fixed" and that file is not found.

I copied the font file from another system.

And I succeeded. but this is the story I made LFS.
