Unable display txt file.

Hello,
I am unable to display downloaded file from unbunto. its says cat filename no file and directory but file is there. i saved file on desktop. i am using vmware players . could you please help to with the command. THANK YOU

1) check the path ( from where you trying to open the file)
2) check the permission

I am trying to open from desktop .
so what will be the path i tried cat /Desktop/ and filename but still the same error
is that the same path i have to type?

can you post the command which you tried

Why would you put a preceding slash on Desktop? That means / (From Root) Desktop, which does NOT exist.

I used cat and filename and it says no such file or directory .
even i used grep and file and i got the same result. in fact i want to exe a particular file from the file name.
when i used cat Desktops filename its says desktop is a directory

Ok, first off you can't spell Ubuntu properly. Secondly, you have been asked to provide the command you used, and you have yet to do that.

Just what sort of miracle workers do you think we are? You are being helped for free by volunteers. Why don't you take some ownership of the problem and try the things people ask you to do?

Unable to display correctly the contents of a file without a line feed

I am using AIX and ksh. I need to display the contents of a file that has a pid (process id). Because the file is open, it doesn't have the line feed or new line, so for some reason if I do this: `cat $pid` , where $pid is the name of the fully qualified file, it displays test3.sh: 426110:...
