editing the unity dash main menu

I have indeed succeeded in adding but not to the sub menu Internet, only when I ask for all the application I can see its icon.

How can I edit the unity dash manually?

Is there a text file for this?

Some kind of folder content?

I mean I used the app "main menu" and it add it the dash menu but not the Internet menu, even though the main menu app show it in the Internet menu.

thanks but it doesn't answer my question at all.

I have already seen it before.
It don't solve my problem because it doesn't tell how to add icons to a specific category in the dash.

I think it has connection to the /usr/share/applications directory.

I see there a lot of files with the extension .desktop.

Maybe I should create such file for my script.

Does anyone know the syntax of those files?

well apparently the dash menu is not work like the menu in windows in which you have directory the resemble the sub-menus and link inside them that resemble the apps.

Instead there are files with the extension .desktop, the content of those files tell ubuntu in what sub-menus of the dash the app should be included.
