Question Sendmail

Hi,

I've disable my sendmail service via svcadm and also remark port 25 in /etc/services. However, i keep getting makeconnection: service "smtp" unknown in /var/adm/messages. What actually causes it? Pls kindly advice

Is /etc/inet/services world readable ?

Hi,

Yes, it is world readable.

-r--r--r-- 1 root sys 1048 Dec 7 15:33 /etc/inet/services

What do you mean "remark port 25 in /etc/services" ? Comment it out ?

That's the mistake. You need to revert that for the error message to disappear.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. If that the case, do i need to block port 25 if smtp is not in use?
