Mounting CIFS share

Is it possible to mount a samba share on a solaris system? I know this is possible with Linux using a fstype of smbfs. I am trying to aviod having to share the same directories via cifs and nfs on a solaris box to windows and solaris clients.

No it is not possible, sorry. At least not with the default install. There are some products such as sharity which implement this though.

Have a look at this:

Sharity-Light - SMBFS for Unix

I have tried it some time ago (well, without success to tell the truth!), but I didn't spend too much time playing with it... At the end I've installed Windows Services for UNIX on the windows server and exported the shared folders via NFS.

Thanks guys.
I thought that was the case.

Also, Sharity looks interesting but it still relies on nfs (at least locally). Plus, the website states there maybe issues in stale NFS file handlers being reported when it attempts to handle locking implementation.

I guess I should just rely on sharing the dirs via NFS and CIFS on the solaris system.
