Requesting maintenance mode

now, i can't find the "libscf.c" file anywhere on my system... this when on maintenance mode... i also can't view the man pages or write to any files until i mount /... with /sbin/mount -o rw,remount /...

what could possibly cause this and what can i do to solve it? i've looked everywhere but no luck...
