System damaged need help please
Hi there, i have sun solaris 10 running on X86 system P4 box with ATA harddisk, anyway suddenly its started to try to login to the maintenance mode asking for the root password when i give it its mount the partitions as read only but when i try to run fsck on them i got this error: can't stat /dev/rdsk/c0d0s0
can't stat /dev/rdsk/c0d0s7 /dev/rdsk/c0d0p4: no such file or directory (thats where i have FAT32 partitions automounted everytime using vfstab) and i get an error message in the start up like this : system/file system/usr:default faild fataliy (see 'svcs-x' for details) Requesting system maintenance mode Console login service(S) cannot run I noticed something else which strange to me too that when i do ls its dont work but its dont send any errors it seems as if its worked but the screen didnt clear, i can ls all directories which means they are still have files but what is the solution please ? |

Try booting from the install cd - see the Troubleshooting FAQ on faq.solaris-x86.org. The first two items may assist you. If you get to the # prompt from cdrom, then try fsck on the hard drive partitions again. If that doesn't do it, possibly reloading the bootblock will help (it matters what may have happened to it - either you overwrote it by mistake [can be fixed] or the drive is going bad [would have to be replaced])

It look like a physcial problem, cause Partition magic marked the whole harddisk as bad, i colud make a backup easily cause i stored my data in fat32 partition, and i gonna make a recover for bad sectors and do a clean install with ALLAH well, but my question now is why it was access the file system as read only, while it is running in Init3 i did who -r and it show level 3, and also it wasnt able to do fsck? any ideas about what could be happend ??

hello xp_2600
doing fsck to check a mounted partition is a bad practice - you can destroy its file systems. cheers... |
