expired root password

We have expiration set on the root password for 30 days. the only way to login as root remotley is login as another user and then su as root. I logged in to the machine today tried to su as root, and got the message

password has expired, use passwd to change

but i cant get in as root..

If i login via console will i be prompted for new password... the datacenter is 25 miles away, would like to know my options before continuing

I'd get in the car with my Solaris CD.... boot cdrom -s, mount the root partition, vi /mnt/etc/shadow, remove the password for root and leave the field blank, reboot the box, then you should be able to log in as root without a password. Change the password asap (and remove the expiry rules ).

Cheers
ZB
