Question Solaris 8 mouse only moveable within an box area

Recently I always encounter this issue, mouse was only movable within an box area and all clicking doesn't have any response.
Application still running fine and keyboard was not hang as Stop + A still can stop the system.
Mouse will be back to normal after re-boot on the system.
Anyone got any idea what's wrong for this issue?
  • Mouse hardware?
  • keyboard hardware as the mouse was connected through the keyboard?
  • Software issue?
  • Any driver issue?

Need more info...

This could be one of lots of issues. What have you tried and ruled out?
And, what is your setup? Are you running an x-windows product?
Have you tried another keyboard and/or mouse?

It's not running on windows, purely solaris system on Ultra10 workstation.
Previous case always just simply replace the mouse without any proof, so now think of is there any way to gather more information to confirm on the real root cause base on all the members experiences.Smilie

If your mouse has a round ball inside, you may want to take it out and clean it with alcohol, or at least water. Make sure that you don't have lint building up inside.

I suspect an application that traps the mouse. The application you are running (which you don't say) will hopefully have a magic-key combination to release the mouse pointer from the Active Window or to stop it being the Active Window.

Can you tell us what application you are using?

Solaris 8 is quite old.
The described symptom indicates a software problem.
Most likely you need to apply a Xsun patch (X-server).
Or an X-client (Openwindows/Openlook/Xview or Motif) patch (that was certainly meant with "X-windows").
Less likely a kernel patch (includes the mouse driver).

It's sun oracle mouse, not a track ball type.

It's workstation for production use in factory, there's plenty of application running in the background and all of those application were running like more than 15 years already and I only encounter this mouse trap in certain area issue for recently (about 1 year).
Any way to verify on the magic-key was there or not?

So this kind of patch normally get it from Oracle?
I'm don't have much understanding on this system as I'm quite new to Solaris nor Linux.
