11.0 to 11.2 update failures

Attempting to update an 11.0 server with many non-global zones installed. pkg publisher is pkg.oracle.com/solaris/support.

Code:
FMRI = pkg://solaris/entire@0.5.11,5.11-0.175.1.15.0.4.0:20131230T203500Z

When we run pkg update --accept the server contacts oracle, checks packages, finds about 700 updates, but when it gets to the stage where it's linking with the NGZs, it fails with this;

Code:
2014-10-06 16:17:44,783 InstallationLogger CRITICAL Failed Checkpoints:
2014-10-06 16:17:44,834   InstallationLogger ERROR

2014-10-06 16:17:45,245 InstallationLogger DEBUG Shutting down Progress Handler

Looking at that file, I see this as the last error;

We have tried with both the release and support repos and still get this error. My thinking currently is to add pkg:/group/system/solaris-small-server to the global zone. Will this help with the errors? or is this not advised on a global zone? We have a dozen or so other Solaris servers and none of the global zones seem to have this.

Thanks for any input.

I am getting the same and have not found a workaround.

I've been combing the internets and I ain't found sh*t!

This is all too common with Solaris. Uninformative errors and no solutions. Please do let me know if you find anything, as shall I.

Will be looking at this again early next week.

Would you rather be dealing with trying to Google "yum failed" and wading through the 3.2 MILLION hits?

Have you thought about what EAGAIN means? "Resource temporarily unavailable"? How much disk space is available while you're running your upgrade? How much memory?

Yeah, that would suck too. I think I was just feeling a little extra cranky, as the word resource has a large number of applications.

In this situation, it beginning to look like the specific resource is space on the physical drive. I tried stepping though all of the incremental SRU upgrades and it flat out failed when I got to anything from the Solaris 11.2 tree.

So we ran
Code:
# pkg update --accept entire@0.5.11-0.175.1.21.0.4.1

and things were going well. Until we received this:

Code:
Linked progress: /
pkg: An unexpected error happened while preparing for update:
pkg: Linked image exception(s):

A 'sync-linked' operation failed for child 'zone:non-global-zone0' with an unexpected return value of 1 and generated the following output:
pkg: Insufficent disk space available (1.17 GB)for estimated need (1.38 GB) for Root filesystem

This we can fix.

I hope. Smilie

Thanks for your help!
