NTP loop

we have two servers that need to be in sync. is it safe to add each other as NTP server, (besides others)? (or would that create some kind of NTP loop?)
thanks.

This is rather an expert question rather than a Solaris question.
I guess it is safe, as long you don't change the normal preference with fuse/prefer.

This is a standard configuration and called symmetric active/passive mode.

Make sure you use something like pool.ntp.org as well.

thanks all, I need to ask another related question, this time Solaris specific.
Is there a failsafe way to remove local clock (LOCAL(0) .LCL.) from ntp.conf?
server keeps driftig away, presumably because local clock is somehow set as stratum0.

we have tried commenting out lines with 127.127.1.0, but it didn't help.
thanks.

I think properly implementing pool.ntp.org would serve to continually stop any potential drift.

Yes, removal/commenting of 127.127.1.0 lines in /etc/inet/ntp.conf and restarting the xntpd should do it.
