Maximum limit for allocation of groups to a folder in solaris 10

Hi,

As per my knowledge, the maximum number of groups that can be allocated to a folder (in Solaris 10) is 16. But I wonder how this rule is applicable to folders which are mounted on NFS which can be accessed by 100s of groups? or is there is a restriction present? I have never handled such a huge environment; hence not sure about it.

Kindly help

Regards,
POGA.Smilie

By 'allocated to a folder' do you mean group access to a directory? And please show us where you got the "16 groups" from.

The restriction is that an individual user account cannot be a member of more than 16 groups and also use NFS.

@ Jim,
Yes , you are correct by " 'allocated to a folder' I meant group access to a directory. A senior Solaris expert told me that a folder can be given access to not more than 16 groups. I am googling for verifying his comment.Smilie

Oh, great:

TL;DR version: Use Linux and “rpc.mountd -manage-gids” and you are done.

So, the solution is to use a system that violates the underlying standards?
