We have tried to perform the data collection of 11 SUN FIRE X4170 SERVER as part of preventive maintenance activity. But, when we tried to access the ILOM using sunservice user we got a “login incorrect” prompt.


We used the “changeme” password.


can we use the root/changeme account instead to run the ipmitool command?

with ilom version 3 and above there is no sunservice account anymore. you'll need to create it and you need a service password (which only a oracle caseowner can create) to access the linux inside the ilom.

for ipmitool actions the root user should be your choice or you can create another user with some lesser rights...

I tried to access the server via SERIAL MGT port of x4170 server using root account, but I can't run the ipmitool command.

How will I connect to the server in order to run the ipmitool?

use another server to collect some data from you x4170:

ipmitool -H <ip-sp-x4170> -U root power status

you can install and use ipmitool from almost any platform...
