Data runlevel issue

hi all
i am using solaris 10 with run level 3.(Graphical Interface). I am a beginner to solaris so that i just want to do some R&D with my machine. I decided to boot into the command line interface, so i go througth the internet and find that the following command should be given to boot into the command line interface
Code:
svcadm milestone -d svc:/milestone/multi-user:default

The moment when i fired this command, immediately it went to the non-graphical mode then i was prompted for root password for maintanence. I could not reboot the system atleast for the next 4 hours. I gave the root password and disable the multi-user service.
Then i enable the multi-user-server service. But still it didnt go the graphical mode.
How to resolve this? Plz help me
This is the output of "svcs -a|grep milestone" command
Code:
bash-3.00# svcs -a |grep milestone
online 10:13:36 svc:/milestone/name-services:default
online 10:13:42 svc:/milestone/network:default
online 10:13:52 svc:/milestone/devices:default
online 10:14:02 svc:/milestone/single-user:default
online 10:14:13 svc:/milestone/sysconfig:default
online 10:14:31 svc:/milestone/multi-user:default
online 14:51:17 svc:/milestone/multi-user-server:default

It may help you

i didnt try any modification in the xorg parameters...and the output of "svcs -a |grep cde" is
Code:
bash-3.00# svcs -a |grep cde
disabled 15:56:28 svc:/application/graphical-login/cde-login:default
disabled 15:56:29 svc:/application/cde-printinfo:default
disabled 15:57:27 svc:/network/rpc/cde-calendar-manager:default
disabled 15:57:27 svc:/network/rpc/cde-ttdbserver:tcp
disabled 15:57:28 svc:/network/cde-spc:default

should i enable all these services. I use java environment desktop. How to get that?

While several Gnu/Linux distributions and possibly other OSes have a specific run-level for the GUI, this has never been the case with Solaris (outside single-user mode which is obviously text only). Outside it, you simply enable or disable the GUI. The precise command depends on the release but should be one of

Code:
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -d
svcadm disable cde-login
svcadm disable gdm2-login
svcadm disable gdm

Enable graphical interface from CLI

Code:

svcadm enable svc:/application/graphical-login/cde-login:default

when you enable CDE server , logout from CLI using exit command and then you should get some message

"Starting login screen on 0:0"

Then you should get GUI login

P.S did you chanege and ttymon settings ?

only the following command works
Code:
svcadm milestone all

i did the following things as instructed in the /etc/inittab file
Code:
# svccfg
# svc:> select system/console-login
# svc:/system/console-login> setprop ttymon/terminal_type = "xterm"
# svc:/system/console-login> exit

is this the problem? i did this immediately after lose the graphical interface.

Ok

Now I am on my Solaris 10 box

look

Code:
 svcs -a |grep cde
disabled 8:55:06 svc:/network/cde-spc:default
online 8:55:06 svc:/network/rpc/cde-calendar-manager:default
online 8:55:06 svc:/network/rpc/cde-ttdbserver:tcp
online 8:55:11 svc:/application/graphical-login/cde-login:default
online 8:55:11 svc:/application/cde-printinfo:default

run level

Code:
# who -r
   . run-level 3 May 13 08:55 3 0 S

you changed

Code:
svc:/system/console-login> setprop ttymon/terminal_type = "xterm"

while default value is 0:0

now as far I know you can set up on two ways

first

Code:
DISPLAY=:0.0
export DISPLAY

second , using dtlogin with autostart

Code:
/usr/dt/bin/dtconfig -e

and please give us log files from /var/adm/messages or from dmesg
