Had to bounce interface to add network route

Hi All,

yesterday I was trying to add a network route to my solaris 8 host using 'route add'. Everytime I tried, I kept getting the response 'network is unreachable'.

I was trying all kinds of different methods, however I eventually got it to work after bouncing the interface that I was trying to use as the gateway.

Any ideas why this happened? is there some kind of lock on the interface while it is in use?

Was the NIC configured properly with the right IP and the right netmask to reach that subnet?

i'm pretty sure it was. I was just wandering if there are any settings that are flushed during a nic bounce? I haven't been able to reproduce this - so could well be user error Smilie

Thanks for the reply though.
