How to install ethernet adapter on Sun Sparc M4000

How to install onboard ethernet card on Sun SPARC M4000 server?

Buy Sun ethernet card, turn off machine, plug in Sun ethernet card. create /etc/hostname.<interface> file containing name for port, add line into /etc/inet/hosts containing same name and its IP address, run "boot -r" from the OBP to get Solaris to see new hardware (or "reboot -- -r" from Solaris).

<interface> will be something like hme0, qfe0, ge0 or eri0, the number will vary depending how many of that type of network port you already have installed. Sun or the documentation will tell you what letters to use for the model of card you have bought.

Beware: Ports may renumber if you have some of the same type already installed!
