setting up a modem on an Ultra5

Hi I had this on the expert unix forum, but nobody answered the I saw this forum which is more to what I am doing.

I was setting up a modem on an Ultra5 running 2.6. (yes I know, how quaint)
There are 15 systems that are interlinked but not accessible to the outside world.
This will end soon with new updated sun systems but until then the system needs to be accessed by the outside world. Hence the modem.
I was called in to help out and discovered that the serial port was not set up correctly I corrected this and then happened to look at the eeprom and the engineer that I was helping remarked that the two entries for the serial ports had not been there before. Because the Ultra 5 is used in a production environment it cannot be shut it down to look at the ok prompt (OBP).

When admintool serial is changed and you choose "Apply" does this update the eeprom? And is it written to the eeprom or will it default to what it was before once the ultra 5 has been rebooted?
Thanks
