GNU GRUB 1.96 (Development branch)

GNU GRUB is a Multiboot loader. It was derived from GRUB. It is an attempt to produce a bootloader for IBM PC-compatible machines that has both the capability to be friendly to beginning or otherwise non-technically interested users and the flexibility to help experts in diverse environments. It is compatible with FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD and Linux. It supports Windows 9x/NT/2000/XP and OS/2 via chain-loaders. It has a menu interface and a command-line interface. License: GNU General Public License (GPL) Changes:
The license has been changed to the GPL v3. grub-emu is now optional. Multiboot2 support has been added. A host filesystem has been added to grub-emu. There is filesystem support for NTFS, cpio/tar, and Reiserfs, support for ATA/ATAPI, update-grub and grub-mkrescue scripts, background image support in gfxterm, 64-bit CPU detection, grub-install for EFI, and support for a colored menu. This release has been newly ported to Efika, coreboot/LinuxBIOS, and OLPC XO. Loading Linux zImages has been fixed. GPT has been enabled in the i386-pc target.
