Anyone know how you go about interrogating a panic / core dump with crash for SCO Unix

Did you try SCO Knowledge Center go there and search for keywords like crash analysis you'll find many useful articles there to help you analyse your system crash.

yeah thanks for that, already been through the knowledge base on sco and hp sites as well as AP lawrence

lots of useful info , but as of yet nothing which has stopped the panics

leaning towards hardware issue, possibly host adaptors, ram or scsi cabling / termination

Gathering information when SCO OpenServer 5.0.x system panics but does not produce a valid dump or the system hangs.

previously read both of those articles

system all set to dump a panic straight to tape in theory, also users also been given information on how to manually attempt to dump any panic image to tape


just waiting for the next panic to happen now Smilie

dear ,

i found some time panic and most of memory related problem found
and i am sure it was hw problem. Smilie

i had a situation where a process was defunct. preap would not reap the process and gcore would not work properly (not sure why). therefore, the suggestion was to force a panic and collect the core dump. obviously you could do a savecore -L and capture the dump without bringing down the system....
