What does this error mean?

Hi all,

I am trying to come up a script to check the existence of a file, and I encountered the following error [: missing `]' when trying this script:

UNIX>. ck_file_name.ksh
[: missing `]'
file doesn't exist

#!/bin/ksh
export file_name=prod_fee_ctgry_1.log
if [ -f $file_name]; then
echo "file exists"
else
echo "file doesn't exist"
fi

This is the Sun Solaris.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

You need a space between file_name and ].

Instead of $file_name]
you need $file_name ]

X96,

You are absolutely right. It needs a space.

Thanks!
