To add a file to the zip or tarred file

Hi,

I know how to extract a particular files from the tar content. But, I am not sure, is it possible to do the same in zip.
Also, may i know is there a way to add a file to tar or zip content without extracting them.

From 'man tar'
Code:
       -r, --append
append files to the end of an archive
From 'man zip' (Zip 2.32 on SuSE 10.3)
Code:
-g Grow (append to) the specified zip archive, instead of creating a new one. If this operation fails, zip attempts to
restore the archive to its original state. If the restoration fails, the archive might become corrupted. This option is
ignored when there's no existing archive or when at least one archive member must be updated or deleted.
