Tools

Try the following:

Code:
> cd ~
> ls -la

The first command will put you in your 'home' directory.
The second command will give you a full listing of all files.
You should see the file there.

ok thanks i found it.. when i used vi .bashrc i saw that the file was blank.. i want to add "cd /cygdrive" to it so i can get to cygdrive folder immediately after login.. can i do that? or do i have to make my .bashrc file executable so that it runs immediately after login?

You dont need a execute on the .bashrc as long as you have read permission what ever commands you put inside it will be executed at login if you are having bash as your login shell.

ok i have added the "cd" command to my .bashrc file but when i open cygwin .bashrc does not execute.. do i have to change my environment variables to enable .bashrc to run at login?

It'll only execute when you start a new bash sesion in a terminal, sometimes it doesn't work at startup, so writing in the terminal
Code:
bash

once again should do it
Also check your .bashrc has read and excecution privileges =)
good luck
