Network Bash? Opensource?

I'm currently writing a paper about the merits of Python as a complete replacement for Bash.

Sources suggest that bash isnt opensource, but they do not actually say that the source is closed, they only state that it i very much controlled?

Can anybody tell me if bash is open or closed so that i may conclude my report.

(No this is not homework, just wish to publish a paper)

Here is the bash home page. Bash is controlled by the Free Software Foundation whose policy is here.

While they do have some restrictions, you can certainly download and examine the source code if you want. I would call that "opensource". But a term like "opensource" isn't exactly in the dictionary or anything.

Read the FSF pages and draw your own conclusion.
