Is there any way to set env variable in top level Makefile and unset when done

Hello
I have compilation directory structure the top level Makefile is the one that contains all the sub directories
I want to set in this Makefile env variable say : setenv OPTIMIZATION_LEVEL "1"
and when all the sub directories done compiling it will set this variable to different lavel say : setenv OPTIMIZATION_LEVEL "2"
but only when all the sub directories done

Unset variable with characters in value

I have a script with a $PASSWORD variable. I unset it right after using it, just to minimize the chance it could be left around for a snooper. That worked just fine... until I used a password with a value of "P@ssw0rd" Now, unset (even with -f, even with the variable enquoted) tells me: unset:... (1 Reply)

env - environment variables SYNOPSIS

The env device serves a one-level directory containing files with arbitrary names and contents. The intention is that the file name is the name of an environment variable (see rc(1)), and the content is the variable's current value. When a fork(2) system call creates a new process, both the parent and the child continue to see exactly the same files in the env device: changes made in either process can be noticed by the other. In contrast, an rfork system call with the RFENVG bit set (see fork(2)) causes a split: initially both process groups see the same environment files, but any changes made in one process group cannot be noticed by the other. An rfork with RFCENVG splits and then clears the environment. SEE ALSO
