Hi.

There are examples of this posted on the forum if you search.

As the timestamp of the files corresponds to the date in the filename:
Code:
cp $(ls -1t | head -1) new_dir

To keep the forums high quality for all users, please take the time to format your posts correctly.

First of all, use Code Tags when you post any code or data samples so others can easily read your code. You can easily do this by highlighting your code and then clicking on the # in the editing menu. (You can also type code tags [code] and [/code] by hand.)

Second, avoid adding color or different fonts and font size to your posts. Selective use of color to highlight a single word or phrase can be useful at times, but using color, in general, makes the forums harder to read, especially bright colors like red.

Third, be careful when you cut-and-paste, edit any odd characters and make sure all links are working property.

Thank You.

One possible way:
Code:
cp -p `ls -tr1 a/b/processed| tail -1` a/b/data

Take care of paths or relative paths. Your example is not exact enough to exclude all possible error sources.
If you want to make sure there is no directory etc. being tried to be copied by this you might want to add -F to the ls and grep for the type of file you want to copy. They will be marked by one of this */=>@|.

you can try this command
Code:
ls -ltr a/b/processed | awk 'END{print $NF}'|xargs -i -t cp {} a/b/data
