running NIS over ssh
Hi Guys,
Is it possible to run NIS over ssh as I want to run NIS without the security risks that would normally follow? If you have got any suggestions please share them with me. Andy H |

Well, it looks like it's not truly supported, but has been done. Check out the links on the SSH FAQ here:
http://www.employees.org/~satch/ssh/...q-5.html#ss5.5 Also, I'm not too familiar with NIS/NIS+, but would NIS+ be of any benefit? (Note: our DNS is flakey right now, so I couldn't view any of the links in the FAQ. So I'm not sure if this is a viable option) |

Thanks LivinFree,
I'll try the solution given on the link you provided. I still don't understand why Sun or anyone else doesn't provide secure NIS and NFS, they are both useful services to have, securing them would make them even better. Andy H |
