Hello peoples, I could really use some expert advice.
Currently I am starting my curriculumn in CompSci. I am very interested in Unix, Shell Programming and Network Security. I would Like to work in Compusec/Infosec........fight system vulnerability for my future employer. What Cert would you suggest that would best compliment these two fields? UNIX & CISCO Security? UNIX & Sun Security? UNIX & ???????????? What Type of UNIX Cert? I plan to add an MCSA to my repertoire also. Ive read some of the other emails pertaining to network security and UNIX cert, but I would appreciate something more specific to a Network Security Admin or Engineer Career, Any and all advice is appreciated? |

For starters, check out this link which lists certs for different types of UNIX operating systems. Personally, all of my experience is with Solaris.

You might consider working toward your CISSP:
https://www.isc2.org/cgi-bin/index.cgi This certification is great for your resume and covers the broader elements of risk management. Many people who work in the computer network security field miss the more important element - risk management. |

Thank you both for your advise.
Neo, I think its really cool that your here in real time answering Q&A. Your on point! CruzMissile, the link you suggested is great, I'll just have to browse this one over and over again and get a better grip on where the Unix Industry is now and hopefully give me some direction to get my foot in the door. To you both, the one thing that will stick w/ me forever, that I got from this site, is experience, educating myself and practice will overcome any cert. Once again, thanks! |
