Are you installing it in a clean installation or with just using an existing one? What architecture are you using? I have tried installing NagiosXI and it is fine are works great.
First thing to do is to test the connection, try using ping. If it does not work, what is the error message for us to be able find a better solution for that. Also verify if you are having a firewall...
