SCSI tape on Openserver 5.0.6

Running into an interesting problem here:
I can add the tape with "mkdev tape" the system appears to see it wwith "hwconfig -hc" however a 'tape status /dev/rStp0' says 'no device found',
checked the configuration files in 'etc' all appear to be correct.

Any suggestion appreciated

Jim

If you missed the tape drive information on the boot up, you can find it in /usr/adm/messages.

Check the information there with the information that you get from the host adapter bios during POST.

Is this the only tape drive configured?

The hwconfig command only displays what the driver configiration is, is has no relation to what the hardware actually is (which is one of the reasons why SCO never bothered putting the command into SCO6). You can configure a tape drive and have it show up in the hwconfig command without ever having a tape drive physically installed on to the system.

Recheck your hardware's address and configuring and redo your mkdev tape.
