PC to Unix Server

Dear Sir,

I am having a (UNIX) P3 500 MHZ - 36 GB HDD - 256 MB RAM Compac Server - 2users & a (Windows XP) P4 HCL PC - 80 GB HDD & 512 MB RAM.

Can I convert the PC to a Unix Server. Can I Load Unix 5.0.5 to this PC and work as a server.

There seems to be no reason you cannot do that. You can check for hardware compatibility here.

Also, this is not the correct sub-forum to post this in. Mods, please move this to the Dummies or the SCO forum.

If you are asking if you can use the P4 as the server, then the answer is no, unless you upgrade to 5.0.7
5.0.5 will not run on a P4
5.0.6 will run on P4 with all the patches installed.
Unless you are worried about the reliability of the Compaq, upgrading to this PC configuration will not likely be a performance improvement. The IDE drive in the P4 will be much slower than the SCSI drive in the Compaq.
