PC to Unix Server
Dear Sir,
I am having a (UNIX) P3 500 MHZ - 36 GB HDD - 256 MB RAM Compac Server - 2users & a (Windows XP) P4 HCL PC - 80 GB HDD & 512 MB RAM. Can I convert the PC to a Unix Server. Can I Load Unix 5.0.5 to this PC and work as a server. regards, Rajesh TATA COFFEE LTD |

There seems to be no reason you cannot do that. You can check for hardware compatibility here.
Also, this is not the correct sub-forum to post this in. Mods, please move this to the Dummies or the SCO forum. |

If you are asking if you can use the P4 as the server, then the answer is no, unless you upgrade to 5.0.7
5.0.5 will not run on a P4 5.0.6 will run on P4 with all the patches installed. Unless you are worried about the reliability of the Compaq, upgrading to this PC configuration will not likely be a performance improvement. The IDE drive in the P4 will be much slower than the SCSI drive in the Compaq. |
