SCO Unix 5.0.5 lost root password DPT PM2022A/9X
I got a old server that came from another company and nobody knows root password.
Server is SCO OpenServer 5.0.5 with DPT PM2022A/9X controller with CM4000 tow hard drives 4G and 1G (So i assume it cannot be raid). I already tried to mount this hard drives on a OpenServer 5.0.6 machine with Adaptec 29160 controller but divvy does not see the file system on any of this tow drives. I went thru the motions with mkdev hd and kernel relink, reboot, mkdev hd again. With other words followed SCO procedure to add a SCSI hard drive, but like i said no success. (divvy does not see any HTFS partitions or any other file system). So I decided to install Openserver on new HD on the same old machine to be able to mount old hard drives this way or there is a possibility of breaking out of installation and mount root file system and change passwd and shadow files than. But my dilemma is that this old machine does not have even a CD-ROM attached to it. So I need put one on and probably another HD. But I suspect that I will need to reconfigure PM2022A/9x controller by using DPT storage manager which I don't have. So here are my questions: 1) Is it possible to read old hard drives (DPT PM2022A/9x) on a new system (Adaptec 29160 controller) without installing PM2022A/9x controller (can't do no EISA)? 2) Do I need to reconfigure PM2022A/9x controller to add new devices? 3) Does anybody have link to the right version of DPT storage manager? 4) Any other suggestions how to get root password? 1. Sometimes, Adaptec generally 'see' hard drive geometry differently than other controllers. You will have to force the disk geometry to be the same as it was on the DPT controller.
2. If their is no raid then it acts as a standard scsi host adapter. 3. Don't think you need it. 4. If you have a regular userid/password that will get you a shell prompt, you can see if the permissions on any of the files in /etc/rc2.d or /etc/rc.d allow you to write to them, and if so modify these to replace /etc/shadow with one from another machine where you know the root password. |
